Leave balance off to a great start in 2025
|
Last year, we began providing monthly leave-tracker updates within On Campus, encouraging staff to take a break, prioritise their wellbeing and collectively work to decrease our leave liability.
As we welcome back staff from the summer break, we are pleased to announce that the University’s annual leave liability total is sitting just above $44 million. Previously we highlighted that on average ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃstaff had five extra days of accrued annual leave relative to the sector and set a target of $46 million by the end of 2025.
We regularly see a drop in leave liability in the December/January period, however, the drop this year was larger than last year. With these figures we are off to a great start in managing our leave liability and with continued focus we can achieve our target.
We thank staff for their collective efforts and are pleased to see the community supporting a healthy work-life balance. The success of this approach will continue to guide the University’s management of leave liability moving forward. We encourage staff to continue taking leave to prevent burnout and exhaustion and to enhance productivity and creativity.

University childcare centres now open

The University is thrilled to announce the long-anticipated launch of its childcare centres (UPCCC) and (HECC). The new facilities officially opened on Monday 3 February and the children and staff are settling in well.
Chief Campus Environment Officer Jeremy Matthew says the Campus Environment Division is very excited to see childcare within our University transition to state-of-the-art modern facilities. “Whilst the project had challenging timelines, it was delivered successfully. This wouldn’t have been achieved without the tremendous support and dedication of our ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃstaff, childcare providers and our consultant and contracting teams.”
Both centres currently have vacancies. Families seeking childcare services should contact the centres directly.
