Medical Services

The 黑料天堂Medical Centre is located on level 2 of the Health and Wellbeing Centre (Building 156) in Kambri.

Update:

Please note, Dr  Wilhelm Anell will be leaving the clinic and will not be available from 28.2.2025. Dr Melissa Bessell is no longer working at the 黑料天堂Medical Centre.

We recommend that before attending/returning to 黑料天堂for semester commencement in 2025 all staff and students with ongoing medical needs seek a GP to get a six-month supply of any regular medications, and to have any other medical needs met, including documentation or supporting letters if you do not have a relationship with the clinic we will not be able to assist you.

If you require a Mental Health Plan or require 黑料天堂documentation EAP, or late withdrawals for the 2025 academic year, please plan accordingly by seeing your regular or alternative GP. List is available in reference documents under alternative providers.

Services are bulk-billed (no cost) for 黑料天堂students. Staff fees can be found under the "fees" section (from $90). Staff will only be bulk-billed for flu vaccination. We are unable to offer appointments if you are not an 黑料天堂student or staff.

Failure to attend, including late attendance, will result in a no-show fee or $40 and $80. Please refer to fees section for details. No further appointments can be booked until DNA fees are resolved.

How to book an appointment

Bookings can be made through the , in-person over the counter, or over the phone by calling 02 6125 2211.

Consultation times:

  • Our standard consultation is 15 minutes long. When booking online, please select long appointment if you have complex enquiries or multiple questions to discuss. If unsure, you can call us to ask.
  • The medical centre holds a number of daily appointments for urgent requirements. If you need an urgent appointment, please call us.

Do I need to do anything upon arrival?

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment. Remember to bring you 黑料天堂student of staff ID with you. Bring your medicare or OSHC insurance card.
  • Upon arrival, please report to reception so that can let your provider know that you are here.
  • If you are a new patient, you will need to fill in a new patient form.

Prescription, referrals and medical certificates.

  • An appointment is needed for all prescriptions, referrals and medical certificates.
  • While doctors have authority to provide medical certificates, it is important to understand that we are not obligated to provide you with a certificate as outlined in this .


Friendly Reminder: if you have a fever, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath OR have tested positive for COVID-19, please phone ahead and advise our reception staff before attending the clinic. This will allow to assist you with alternative appointment options, such as telehealth. 

Communications 

For recalls and reminders - depending on the type of follow-up required, you may receive a text or a phone call from our practice with regards to recalls (if required) and reminders. 

Contacting our practitioners - doctors and nurse practitioners do not routinely take phone calls from patients. If a patient wishes to leave a message for a doctor, a reception team will forward it to a nurse for appropriate follow up. Please note that inappropriate messages will not be passed on to the practitioners. 

E-mail requests - we are unable to provide medical advice via email. We are also unable to take on requests for scripts and referrals via email. Please book an appointment instead. 

 

Fees

The 黑料天堂Medical Centre has a schedule of fees. Fees below:

Appointments are covered through your OSHC cover. We cover the following OSHC providers: Allianz, AHM, BUPA and Medibank.

For other insurers, you will need to pay fees upfront and claim 100% back from your OSHC provider.

Staff are NOT Bulk-Billed. Charges below:

  • Standard 15 minutes consultation - $90 (Medicare rebate $42.85. You pay: $47.15)
  • Long 30 minutes consultation - $150 (Medicare rebate $82.90. You pay: $67.1)
  • Flu vaccination - bulk billed
Immunisation records uploadImmunisation records upload - $25
This is applicable for childhood vaccination records upload to AIR and uploading history of your past vaccination to AIR.

Procedures 

 

Fees for procedure (implanon insertion, ear wax removal, skin excision, etc) will be discussed with you at the time of consultation.

We do not offer iron infusion.

Items that we cannot bulk-bill (and no Medicare rebates)

 

In line with some items do not attract rebates. If you are a student, this means that we cannot bulk-bill you. If you are a staff, this means that you will not get rebates from Medicare.

Items not eligible for rebates include but not limited to:
- Driver's license health assessment - $150
- No longer available: Worker's compensation consults 
- Consults relating to insurance claims (price depending on case complexity)
- Telehealth if you do not meet eligibility criteria

Failure to attend 

Failing to attend a scheduled appointment will result in a fee being charged. Please notify us at least two hours before your appointment if you are unable to attend. You can let us know via HotDoc, over the phone or email. 

If you miss your appointment due to arriving late, failure to attend fee will still apply to you.

Please note that failing to honour a booked appointment will incur the following charges:

  • $40.00 for 15 minute appointments
  • $80.00 for 30 minute appointments


No show fees are not covered by medicare or your OSHC. If you are experiencing financial hardship and require immediate assistance, please refer to the Financial advice and assistance page for further information.

We are unable to process future bookings if you have unresolved DNA fees with our clinic. 
 

Interpreter Services are available if required, please let us know when you make an appointment and we can organise this for you. As this is a service provided by a third party, there will be fees that will need to be paid to said third party.

Registered Nurse Casie Causley (she/her)

Nurse Casie looks after:

  • Wound care
  • Women's health
  • Cardiac health screening
  • ECGs
  • Childhood immunisation and adult catch-up immunisations
  • Pap smear

黑料天堂 Nurse Casie:

Nurse Casie is a Wiradjuri woman from Wagga Wagga. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Charles Sturt University. She also holds postgraduate nursing qualifications in nursing and neurosurgical nursing.

Prior to joining ANU, Casie worked in the ICU and HDU at Calvary Hospital in Wagga Wagga. She has also worked in other wards at Queen Elizabeth hospital and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.

When not at work, Casie likes to spend time with her kids, playing video games and doing diamond painting.

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Chris Helms (He/him)

With over 23 years experience as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, Chris is passionate about serving the diverse needs of populations.

 

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Ebony Anderson (she/her)

Ebony has over 10 years experience as a nurse practitioner and is originally from the USA.

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Kathleen Kuntz (she/her)

Areas of interest:

  • General primary care
  • Prevention/response to gender-based violence

黑料天堂 Nurse Kathi:

Kathi hails from New York, but is now firmly planted in Canberra and ANU. She completed her Master's Degree of Nursing and obtained Nurse Practitioner licensure at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA in 2002. Kathi has specialisation in women's health and sexual health, but is also available for routine primary care consultations for all students. She has a particular interest and expertise in the care of victims of gender-based violence and is committed to provision of person-centred and trauma-informed health care for all. Both Kathi and Registere Nurse, Casie Causley are available to offer guidance on, or participate in, campus-based health promotion activities including sexual health education and STI-testing events.

 

Dr Yue (Michelle) Yin (She/her)


Michelle earned her medical degree from 黑料天堂in 2017 and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2024.
Michelle completed her internship and residency at The Canberra Hospital (TCH) and Calvary Hospital. Prior to working as a GP, Michelle has worked as psychiatric registrar and emergency doctor in TCH and Calvary Hospital.

She has a Diploma in Child Health (Sydney Children Hospitals Network). She is a member of Australian Menopause Society. She also holds a PhD degree in Biochemistry from Monash University, Vic.

Dr Tang-Sheng Ying (he/him)


Dr Zeng and his family have been living in Canberra since 1996. After completing his PhD studies at the University of Queensland, he worked at the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), The Canberra Hospital, Calvary Hospital, John James Hospital and Queanbeyan District Hospital, in addition to general practice.


He speaks fluent Cantonese and Mandarin. Dr Zeng has a strong interest in acute care and skin procedures.
His personal interests include music, sport and gardening.

Medical Certificate and Academic Considerations

The Medical Centre is unable to advise students on academic consideration applications. 

If you require supporting documentation to assist with academic considerations, please ensure that you have familiarised yourself with the consideration requirements you are applying for.

While doctors have authority to provide medical certificates, it is important to understand that we are not obligated to provide you with a certificate as outlined in this .

OSHC for International Students

If you are a student from overseas on a temporary student visa, it is a condition of your visa that you maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your visa.

At 黑料天堂Medical Centre, your appointments are covered by your OSHC. This means that you do not need to pay for your doctor's consultation. You will need to know your policy number.

  • There are several walk-in centres available in Canberra. They provide free health care for non-life-threatening injuries to anyone over one year of age. The closest walk-in centre to 黑料天堂is located in Dickson.

Doctors on Demand Telehealth (free with Allianz OSHC)

  • International students with Allianz OSHC cover can access free telehealth services offered by Doctors on Demand. Doctors on Demand GPs are authorised to issue medical certificates.

  • Requests for after-hours home doctor visits can be made through 13 SICK (13 74 25).
  • Service hours are:
    • Weekdays after 6pm
    • Weekends and public holidays: after 12 noon.

Ambulance

  • Ambulance services are not covered by Medicare and you may not be covered by OSHC. If you do need to be transported using an ambulance service, you can make your to way to the emergency departments at:
