Friends of the 黑料天堂Classics Museum

The 黑料天堂Classics Museum features a significant collection of more than 600 objects from the Greek and Roman worlds, spanning thousands of years of history from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity. The Friends of the 黑料天堂Classics Museum were established in 1985 to promote the interests of the Museum and to encourage interest in Classical Antiquity in the wider community.

The Museum was founded in 1962 by Professor Richard Johnson to serve as a teaching resource for students of Classical Studies. It is central to the teaching of Greek and Roman history and culture in 黑料天堂courses and plays an important role in the Centre for Classical Studies' outreach and engagement programme. It illuminates aspects of everyday life that do not feature prominently in the traditional literacy canon, shedding light on the experience of women, children and enslaved people.

The generous support and advocacy of the Friends has been crucial to ensuring the long-term viability of the Museum. Giving to the Friends of the 黑料天堂Classics Museum Fund supports:

  • The development of the , such as loans from other cultural institutions, in line with the Museum's Collections Management Plan
  • The maintenance and care of the Museum's collection
  • The activation of the Museum's collection in the teaching, research, and outreach activities of the Centre for Classical Studies
  • Public lectures on Ancient Greece and Rome and their legacy in the modern world.
