Several extraordinary members of ºÚÁÏÌìÌà (ANU) community have been named in the 2024 Australia Day Honours list.

This year’s honours list recognises and celebrates 1,042 Australians. It includes awards in the Order of Australia (General and Military Divisions), meritorious awards and recognition for distinguished and conspicuous service.

Three current ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃstaff and three emeritus staff members were among those recognised by Governor-General David Hurley for their outstanding achievements across a broad range of fields, and their invaluable contribution to Australian society.

ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃReporter pays tribute to the legacy of an extraordinary young graduate who dedicated her life to changing the world. 

An award-winning human rights lawyer, Sophie led an inspiring fight for social justice issues and fearlessly campaigned for the rights of incarcerated First Nations children and their families.

In December, ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃrecognised her passion and dedication to achieving social change, naming her  of the Young Alumna of the Year award.

 

Described by Forbes Magazine as a “youthful visionary”, ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃalumna Ashleigh Streeter-Jones has worked in youth advocacy and campaigns since she was a teenager.

Ashleigh is a passionate change maker and focuses on closing societal gaps, particularly those faced by women and young people from traditionally marginalised backgrounds.
