Meet our 2025 黑料天堂Alumni Awards Finalists
Each year, the 黑料天堂Alumni Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of our most remarkable alumni. This year, our 2025 Young Alum of the Year award finalists are shining examples of leaders in the areas of climate action, inclusivity and science communication.
Lily Dempster (BA/LLB '12)
Lily Dempster, Founder and CEO of climate tech startup One Small Step, is a trailblazer in environmental advocacy and pro-environmental behaviour change. Her platform has empowered tens of thousands of Australians to collectively save over 8,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 130,000 trees. From reducing plastic waste and home energy use to adopting sustainable lifestyles, the One Small Step app has garnered 70,000+ downloads and transformed climate action at scale. A 2023 Cartier Women's Initiative Fellow, Lily balances global recognition with ongoing ties to ANU, collaborating on sustainability projects and mentoring future changemakers. Her dedication embodies innovation and purpose-driven leadership.
George Vallance (BAsPacSt/LLB '13, GDipLegPrac '14)
George Vallance is a transgender person with disability whose dedicated advocacy has significantly impacted LGBTQIA+ rights, disability health policy, and inclusivity in Canberra and at ANU. George's advocacy has led to the adoption of inclusive language policies in ACT maternity services, significant funding for LGBTQIA+ health reforms, and the ACT鈥檚 first Disability Health Strategy. Their leadership on the LGBTQIA+ Health Scoping Study Report continues to highlight the need for increased access to vital health services for LGBTIQA+ Canberrans.
George remains connected with ANU, strengthening inclusivity through teaching, mentorship, and financial support through the for LGBTQIA+ law students. George exemplifies our University鈥檚 values through tireless advocacy and meaningful community impact.
Lee Constable (BA '12, BSc '14, MScCommunOutreach '15)
Lee Constable is a trailblazer in science communication and advocacy. The first of her family to graduate university, she went on to host the children鈥檚 science show Scope on Network 10, reaching tens of thousands of families nationwide. Lee鈥檚 initiative, Co-Lab: Science Meets Street Art, bridges science and art through public murals, and her children鈥檚 books inspire young readers to tackle environmental challenges. A champion for equity in STEM, Lee mentors regional students, advocates for LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and amplifies diverse voices through media and education. Her enduring connection to 黑料天堂highlights her dedication to empowering future changemakers.
